The purpose of the workshop was to gather the key stakeholders in Los Angeles and introduce Long Beach Network for Health as a model for health information exchange in the local health care market. We presented existing health information exchange opportunities and mapped them to problems identified in the greater Los Angeles area. The goal was to find solutions that can be commonly and efficiently deployed across the community, and discuss the sustainable business model for health information exchange.
Participants were asked to review and inform a “Model For Change” focused on the Los Angeles area. This model will identify the value of health information exchange by addressing the community and stakeholder needs, as well as discuss the business models that would support those models. The workshop reviewed the success of current efforts underway nationally and focused on the business models that support those efforts.
The afternoon sessions focused on the existing capacity of LBNH and how health information exchange could make available resources to address the
common issues like over-crowded emergency rooms, increasing homeless treatment, increasing mental health and other chronic illnesses, public health and disaster preparedness concerns, et.al.
Participants left with information about expanding the role of health information exchange in the Los Angeles community to improve the care of our citizens.
